What makes Multi-Roll so good?
The Multi-Roll is all-metal construction, using premium grade industrial spring steel wires and die-cast wire plates made from high-grade aluminium - it is made to last.
Combined with the commercial strength handle adaptor, the Multi-Roll is ideally suited for commercial harvesting of fallen nuts in orchards and in wild-growing situations.
The die-cast wire plates accurately maintain spacing between wires - compared to other products in the market, the objects entering the Multi-Roll cage are much more securely held in the cage. Furthermore, the accurate spacing allows the Multi-Roll to pick up objects from small diameter to large diameter.
You can use it on all types of terrain: flat, sandy, grass, branches, stones - the Multi-Roll works wherever you do!
The Multi-Roll requires only a light force to push, and the weight of the Multi-Rolll pushes the objects into the cage.
With a 6 liter volume, it is possible to gather many more objects before needing to empty the cage using the remover tool. The compact shape allows working close to obstacles, so that many more objects can be picked up with the roller around the obstacles.
What drives us at Multi-Roll?
At MultiRoll we are driven by a philosophy focused on improving the quality of life for low-income rural farmers and gatherers who rely on the harvest for their livelihood. Our business purpose is first and foremost to get MultiRoll into the hands of as many people who can benefit from it.
To achieve this, we keep the unit cost low and operate a low-margin business model - we believe that large social benefit is achievable with small corporate margins.
We continually invest in R&D to meet this purpose – we have been releasing an updated design of our product every 3 years with an aim to simplify the design and reduce cost. Our latest model (due for release in Q4 2018) will further reduce the product cost by 20% - a saving we are passing on to customers.
We are always seeking interested partners who have a similar philosophy of maximising social benefit, and who can operate on small margins to achieve the lowest possible MultiRoll cost for the user.
A case study
Aligned to our philosophy, Multi-Roll is working across Central West Africa to introduce a tool that improves the quality of life for the women who gather Shea nuts - the start of a long chain that transforms this African-native fruit into Shea butter used in the skincare industry.
Shea nut gathering is performed before dawn or after dusk, times when venomous snakes and other reptiles are active - estimates are that 30,000 women are bitten each year when harvesting Shea nuts. The work is also laborious, and the bent over posture during picking causes pains in waist and back. The income for the women is directly linked to how many Shea nuts they harvest, which they sell raw or processed into shea butter.
The Shearoller addresses all of those aspects: it distances the women from the reptiles (reducing bite injury), the harvesting is more upright (reducing pains), and the Shearoller harvests 3x faster than hand-gathering (this can increase the income for the women who perform the harvesting).
The updated product design for the 2019 season enables repairs without the need for any additional tools, and reduced production costs have resulted in a lower price for the women that need this tool.
As a member of the Global Shea Alliance, Multi-Roll is continuing to develop partnerships with companies and organisations who share a similar vision - to improve the quality of life of the rural women in Africa.
